The consistent layer of ink thickness produced by gravure cylinders has significant advantages in the area of printed electronics, as do the strength and durability of the gravure cylinder as a print tool. The gravure printing method has already proven to be a practical option for production of such materials as inherently conducting polymers, organic LEDs, and transparentconducting coatings and patterns of indium tin oxide using nanoparticle-based UV-curable inks. Many of the engraving techniques developed by Keating, in particular those producing high coatweights and straight edges on engraved lines, are ideally suited to this exciting emerging market.
